The first time an adult was Wrong.

I was 5, I'd been to Sizewell B, and this was the first time I had been educated about nuclear physics. Yeah, neutron induced fission of U-235 is a bit dull, but I ws 5. it was exciting for me then, okay? And I had a booklet, explaining atomic and nuclear tphysics to children. It was lovely and had atoms in it. They were red and round and had arms and legs and ear-wings; obviously, all representations except QM matricies are unphysical at some level, and very few 5 year olds except Susan can expect to have QM explained to them.

So I had to write about what I'd done in the holidays in class and I was trying to write about atoms. And I wasn't sure what atoms were, or how to spell them, so I took a shot at it, and wrote my effort down in my spelling book and took it to my teacher. Who insisted that the "little round red things that everything is made of" was "a tomato", rather than an atom. I knew what a tomato was, and was pretty sure it had little to do with atomic physics. I attempted to explain about "a" being part of the word rather than an indefinate article, but lacked the necessary linguistical knowledge and got upset instead.

So there you have it. Reception teacher ignorent of nuclear structure. Amazing.
