So... anyone got a spare moniter they can give me? this one just stopped using the the side 1/4s of the screen, and is prettty distorted in the middle too. Advice on getting a new one might be nice too. What about those flatscreen jobs?

EDIT: The screen is now alternating between being even more distorted and turing itself off.
Exciting.

I have a 17" CRT monitor you're welcome to, or indeed you could get a TFT - only thing I advise with TFTs is to shop around, and check the manufacturer's guarantee on it. TFTs don't seem to last as long as CRTs.

At work, after evaluating various TFTs, we chose these as our standard. They're not the cheapest, but they are excellend quality for the money, are adjustable in height, and have a solid guarantee.

Have you tried de-Gaussing it?

Only 5 times. Plus it does it automatically sometimes. :)

I have significant experience in formal and informal IT support. There's a reason why all support scripts start with the blindingly obvious questions. :-P

No, I have spare monitors at this time. People worth asking: Shevek and martin (the latter's in Japan at the moment though, so may not be exacly useful). Given the logistics of getting a CRT from Bath to Paisley, though, a new TFT may be both cheaper and less hassle. ;-)

They start with the blindingly obvious because a retard might be having the problem, not your physicist boyfriend. -_-

Have you tried exorcising it?

Did you accidentally get magnetism all over you whilst in Italy? It might have then stuck to the monitor, messing it up. </intelligent and helpful>

Flatscreens are the spawn of the devil's loins.

CRTs have better image quality, at lower prices, and last longer. And when you're angry, you can punch and headbutt them without breaking them.

Real men do not buy Flatscreens.

I might actually be able to help there. I have an old PC (of which the PC part is mostly dead) which is taking up room on my desk, complete with a CRT moniter.

Tis a compaq, and says P75 on it. Tis also quite big. If you want it, would be for collection from Bath as I currently lack the funds, time and resources to get it to you myself.

Let me know if you're interested.
