Since the contest of arms I've be thinking about bakers and how they can exist. Obviously, they arn't a natural phenomenon: in the wild they'd be eaten by zombies befre they even had time to construct a rudementory oven. My theory is that I (with the aid of the armed forces and the specilist volunteer coups) made them. That is to say I repeatedly cleared an area of roving undead hordes and other freakish abominations, until it was possible for bakers to exist.
Arguably, tradesmen are my greatest achivement. Equally true: they are a very fragile creation which is why villages keep getting destroyed.
Then
aleksrothis wrote a song and I was "inspired"
Our differences define us and makes us special
O'er the hills and o'er the main
All around is evil's reign
Goblins horde and monsters slay
Over the hills and far away
Hemmed by danger on every side
we take these threats in our stride
Drawn together by mutual need
we have forged a simple creed:
Hold together and we'll not die
Over the hills and 'neth the sky
O'er the hills and o'er the main
few of those that live are sane
demons dance and liches play
Over the hills and far away
we have built a commonwealth
home of ogre, man and elf
changing the environment
all our efforts are well spent
apiarists and bakers work
whilst in the forests dangers lurk
O'er the hills and o'er the main
nothing but to kill and maim
to the wilds we'll not stray
Over the hills and far away
Like delicate tropic bloom
we need a well-tended room
Yes in the wild we'd not survive
yet here we tend to the bee hives
Stable as a mountain on its tip
held there by duck tape and spit
O'er the hills and o'er the main
things produced by fevered brain
don't go out; your skin they'll flay
Over the hills and far away
We are the kingdom's mongrel horde
fighting for our room and board
fighting with alloy'd might
Bastard children of day and night
chaotic whim and deaths' decree
all shall serve our society
You may think you've got us beat
but you see, we'll always cheat
