Apr. 18th, 2010 07:15 pmI think I went to the strangest gig of my life last night. To explain, I will have to start with what the gig should have been:
http://www.evelynevelyn.com/
Evalynevalyn are a singer/songwriter duo consisting of Evelyn and her conjoined twin sister, Evelyn (secretly, the sisters are played by Amanda Palmer and Jason Webley, as they do not really exist). The stage show is meant to be theatrical, with the sisters putting up with the dickery of their evil manager whilst they sing and play and he performs a puppet act (The stage show ends in tragedy). The supporting acts are meant to be Jason and Amanda (performing as themselves)
However, there was a volcano in Iceland, and the dust cloud prevent flights across Europe, except a few between Iceland and Glasgow, so of the manager, the twins, the props and the road crew, only Amanda managed to make it to the right continent.
Some opening acts were found (Bitter Ruin were lovely, had nowhere to sleep, and weren't entirely sure how they were going to afford their travel to Glasgow), Jason Webly performed via skype (with a 1-and-a-half second delay each way) and random members of the audience were asked to provide props, be Jason's telepresence computer stand, or hold the crowd surfing computer that was webcasting the event.
It was marginally more professional than the Aberystwyth entry to the interuniveristy battle of the bands where the guy collapsed on the floor and twitched for the entire set, but much, much more enjoyable. :D
The tour hasn't sold out yet...
